Ale to the Chief!

We the Brewers of Avery Brewing Company, in order to form a more perfect ale, require new leadership that can liberate us from our quagmires in foreign lands; embrace environmentally sound energy alternatives to imported oil; heal our ailing healthcare system; free us from tyrannical debt and resurrect the collapsing dollar.  We hereby pledge to provide him with an ample amount of our Presidential Pale Ale to support in the struggle for the aforementioned goals!

Hail to the New Chief!

So reads the label of Ale to the Chief, the latest limited release brew from Avery Brewing Company brewed to bid a fond farewell to our current Commander in Chief and welcome a new administration.  Our thought process for this beer was rather simple: take the classic American Pale Ale, use American ingredients like West Coast Cascade hops and the American Ale yeast strain (a first for Avery Brewing) and produce a beer in the Avery tradition with intense, in-your-face flavor.

Eschewing the more popular notions of size and flavor for the ubiquitous American Pale Ale, Ale to the Chief reeks of grapefruit and citrus on the nose (yep, that's a whole lotta Cascade hops folks!), pours bright amber with a balanced body and a crisp, lingering bitter finish.  At 8.75% ABV, you know this beer will be as full-flavored as every other Avery beer you have sampled.

Please join us next Wednesday, July 16th at the Avery Tap House for the official release of Ale to the Chief.  We'll be tapping a FIRKIN of Ale to the Chief at 5 PM on the night of the party.   If you can't make it don't fret, you can find it on tap and in 22oz bombers at the best beer bars and bottle shops around the country.  Cheers!

The Society for the Pursuit of Hoppiness
Mountain Happy Hour
Saturday July 12th, 2008, 3:00-5:00pm
Zoka's Restaurant and Bar
Pine, Colorado

Join Avery Brewing Co. and The Society for the Pursuit of Hoppiness as we celebrate our lupulin fascination at Zoka’s in Pine, Colorado.

We picked Zoka’s as a meeting point because the landscapes are amazing, the food is excellent and their commitment to great, hoppy beer is evident in their beer line-up: Maharaja Imperial IPA, Avery IPA and a specialty batch of dry-hopped IPA as well as other fine ales.

We will be offering life-time Society memberships for $15. Membership in the Society includes a Society T-shirt and a pint of Dry-Hopped Avery IPA, along with an unwavering commitment to excellence and adventure in your beer choices.

Zoka’s has also put together a special menu for the day including: IPA battered Fish & Chips, IPA battered Onion Rings, Blackened Fish Tacos and the famous Zoka’s Mini Burgers. Full menu available.

Four on the Fourth 4k Run -  We had a great turnout of 200+ runners for the first ever Four on the Fourth 4k.  Not surprisingly (we are a Boulder brewery after all) the competition to win your weight in beer was quite stiff, with a field that included an Olympian and a former world record holder in the 4 mile and 10k distance.  Overcoming the tough competition was Josh Glaab of Superior, CO who took the overall men's and Laura Breuss of Boulder, CO who captured first place for the women.  Congrats to everyone who ran and much thanks to Twenty Twenty Communications, Boulder Running Company, The Front Range Catering Co and AOV Inc. for sponsoring the race.  See you all next year!

The Beer Comes First
 Initiation onto the Avery team

Every new Avery employee in recent years has showed up with the same question at the back of their mind: Why in the world was my first workday scheduled for a Friday? Little do they know, Head Brewer Steve Breezley wouldn't have it any other way.

Twice a month the entire Avery team gathers on a Friday afternoon to taste beers that were brewed in prior weeks.  All employees taste each beer and offer suggestions on improvements and taste (we are on a quest to make perfect beer).  Once we have tasted all of our beers, a full-on world of beer tasting ensues, with each person clamoring to put in their two-cents on the perceived qualities of each beer.  Anyone who has ventured into the Avery Tasting Room on an early Friday afternoon has undoubtedly seen these tasting sessions in their final throws.

This small oddity of initiation into the Avery crew is actually a sign of our unspoken mantra: the beer comes first.  Each extra dollar we earn is first allotted to capital improvements that will assist us in making better beer.  If a technique promises to improve the quality of our beer it will be implemented even if it means more work for the brewer and more money to make the beer.   In short, the Friday initiation is the first step in the Avery way of ensuring that everyone in the company, especially our newest hires, understands our overriding philosophy about crafting and selling beer.

We would like to extend an invitation to you, our loyal fans, to take part in an initiation session of your own.  Come and join us on Wednesday, March 5th for the opportunity to take part in a Hop Education tasting alongside a few of the brewers and staff members of Avery Brewing Company.
