Yoga is an extraordinary science of
self-development and self-realization aimed at
cultivating our fullest potential for well being within
our many-faceted lives. First developed in ancient India
thousands of years ago, the profound wisdom and benefits
of this practice have been passed down through
generations of dedicated teachers and students all over
the world. Yoga is both a philosophy and a physical
practice integrated in order to bring about deep harmony
and balance to our body, mind and spirit. The methods of
yoga, such as physical postures (asanas), breathing
techniques (pranayama), and meditation offer each of us
the opportunity to awaken an inherent capacity for
feeling fully alive in our bodies, open in our minds,
generous in our hearts and vibrant in our spirits.
The way yoga is practiced has tremendous impact on both
the body and the mind:
Forward bends are calming and soothing
encouraging introspection. They nourish the digestive
and reproductive systems and relax the adrenals.
Backbends are energizing and uplifting as they
unfold and open the body, and encourage extroversion.
They nourish the digestive, respiratory and circulatory
systems and balance the thymus, adrenal and thyroid
glands.
Sidebends are energizing and aligning. They
nourish the circulatory and respiratory systems and open
up more space for the breath.
Inversions are restorative and soothing. They
nourish the circulatory system and remove strain from
the body and mind. In addition, they balance the pineal,
pituitary and thyroid glands.
Twists are cleansing, detoxifying and integrating
as they balance introversion and extroversion, right and
left sides of the body and brain, logic and intuition.
They nourish the digestive system and balance the
adrenal, gonad and thyroid glands.
The classes at BoulderBodyworks include poetic
imagery and philosophical insight that help guide
students to a deeper level of experience and
understanding in their bodies. Ahimsa, a Sanskrit term
defined as non-violence or the opposite of hostility, is
often explored in classes asking each student to
practice without aggression and to cultivate compassion
for their bodies, the circumstances of their lives and
their own unique journey of transformation.
BoulderBodyworks is committed to providing a
warm, friendly, non-intimidating environment for
students of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels.
All of our classes are limited to nine students,
creating an intimate environment with detailed personal
feedback and gentle hands on adjustment to support each
student’s practice.
Private Sessions
In addition to group classes, private yoga sessions are
available and recommended for individuals looking to
deepen their existing practice. Therapeutic private yoga
sessions are recommended for individuals recovering from
injuries, dealing with chronic pain, structural
misalignment or any other specific need. Private
sessions are interactive and collaborative through which
self-care programs are mindfully designed to help
students continue their practice at home. Yoga therapy
can sometimes be a covered benefit with healthcare
plans. Please contact BoulderBodyworks for more
information about private sessions and booking
availability.
